This museum dedicated to early cinema is unusual and quirky - you must make a booking for a private tour beforehand so don't expect to turn up and gain entrance. The tour itself is very interesting and informative and the films we saw at the end were nostalgic and surprising, particularly the earliest one showing the floods in Paris at the turn of the last century - the quality of the film was incredible. Sited in the workhouse that Charlie Chaplin, his brother Sid and his mother Hannah had to enter, the museum naturally has a fair amount of memorabilia associated with him. Much of the workhouse site itself has been redeveloped but the museum is housed in what would have been the Masters.

I thought this would be a small museum, with things I already knew about Florence Nightingale as I studied her at school. But this museum have a completely different insight into her! The staff were so friendly and the atmosphere was lovely. It was all set out so beautifully and you learnt so much about her that you don't find out when you read websites on her. She was so sassy and ahead of her times, you can see that she'd be the one to make changes in health! There was also an insightful guided tour. I would thoroughly recommend to any healthcare professional or student, my boyfriend who does politics also found it extremely enjoyable! We must have spent at least an hour in there.

I visited today following the recommendation of a friend. The museum has recently had a major refurb. Housed in an old church building the combination of old and new blends seamlessly, with historic features maintained and restored and new features fitted in sympathetically around the old. Various small galleries containing antique gardening implements, garden plans, beautiful botanical paintings and a well illustrated background to the long history of the building. Interesting talks by designers and gardeners available throughout.Lovely newly planted small urban garden complete with mausoleums and gravestones from the buildings earlier purpose. Excellent cafe. All in all - a little gem.
