St John's Catholic Cathedral serves the community with regular masses, prayers, and religious services. The cathedral is the mother church of the Portsmouth diocese and the seat of the Bishop of Portsmouth, currently the Right Reverend Philip Egan. St John's Catholic Cathedral was dedicated in 1882. Initially, the cathedral served as a chapel for a small number of Catholics in the area. As the community's population grew, it needed to be expanded to accommodate the growing population. St John's Catholic Cathedral has an inviting and pleasant ambience that attracts people from the neighbouring community to attend masses, prayers, and other events. The cathedral offers various activities, including arts and crafts, board games, and a two-course meal. Tea and coffee are served before the Civic Mass.

2025 Update: The Cathedral Choir sings during the 1000 Mass every Sunday. In Autumn 2025, an average of 1,143 people attended Mass on Sundays at the Cathedral.
