“Aberdeen Academy of Performing Arts was founded by Rachel, offering over 80 classes in dance, acting, gymnastics, and musical theatre. The dance school started with 40 students and now has around 400 each week. They offer classes for all ages, from babies (8 weeks) to adults. The dance school's classes are fully structured to allow children to develop and progress at their own speed. Aberdeen Academy of Performing Arts' teams rehearse all year round, compete in selected festivals/competitions throughout the UK, and perform abroad. They were the first Scottish dance school to introduce acrobatic gymnastics under Scottish Gymnastics membership and remain the only acrobatic gymnastics club in North East Scotland. They moved into their own premises and began offering birthday parties. Aberdeen Academy of Performing Arts created their own dance competition, judged by West End performers and choreographers at the Tivoli Theatre in Aberdeen. They also launched the Dance Compete Achieve Associate Scheme with Pivitol Productions and sold out all performances of their first production at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival before the run even started.

2025 Update: Aberdeen Academy of Performing Arts is committed to giving professional tuition to students in as many performing arts areas as possible.”

“Danscentre aims to provide students with an all-around education and training in dance that will form the basis of a lifelong relationship with the art form. Karen Berry is the school's Principal and founder. They also aim to help all their students reach their potential. They work to ensure that they provide relevant, flexible, and holistic training. Their approach ensures that students thrive cognitively, socially, emotionally, and physically. Danscentre offers graded classes where the emphasis is not just on fun but on developing movement skills, confidence, fitness, and self-esteem. Danscentre offers examinations at graded and vocational levels in association with R.A.D. All students can take examinations, and all classes incorporate both syllabus and free work, developing a broad and sound subject base. The school also has five branches.

2025 Update: They provide both on-site and online classes for those living far from their dance school. As an approved ISTD Teacher Training Centre, they offer DDE Modern teacher training programmes, and dance leadership award approved by Sports Leaders UK, which usually runs as a week-long intensive during a school holiday period.”

A brilliant dance school that's fun and friendly with a wide range of classes for all ages. Great teaching whether it's classes just for fun or for those looking towards a career in dance and performing arts. Lots of opportunities to perform in shows and competitions. Can't recommend highly enough!! My children have gained so much from being part of a school with a great principal who is so supportive of pupils individually and as a whole school.

My daughter absolutely adores the Natalie Tough School of Dance. She is currently enrolled in 4 different Classes at age 5 and loves every single one, even looking to take on a 5th. I cannot wait for the next show either. Nothing makes me prouder than seeing my little lady smiling away on the stage. The confidence she has gained, along with the mobility skills, since starting dance is unbelievable. Highly Recommend.

My daughters love being part of the AAPA family. They have been given so much opportunities including preforming on stage regularly, attending workshops, taking part in the Aberdeen Christmas parade, social activities with friends and even travelling and performing throughout Scotland, Birmingham and Disneyland Paris. AAPA is a safe, friendly, positive place for children to learn, grow and be who they want to be. The staff are supportive, encouraging and welcoming. If you are thinking of joining the AAPA family… do it!.

Amazing dance studio, a great range of different dance styles that you can choose from. My daughter has been going there for years and would always recommend aapa. There is lots of different opportunitys for the children to do. The staff and all of the other children are all welcoming and are always willing to help.

Amazing performing arts school. My daughter has attended since she was just a toddler and has developed so well across various classes since. She loves it.

DANSCENTRE REVIEWS

Danscentre will always have a special place in my heart. The training I received there as a young dancer has stayed with me and given me the grounding, drive and confidence to forge a career in the dance industry. It is a pleasure to maintain strong links with the school and seeing each generation inspire the next has created a sense of family which is very special.

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to the team at Danscentre. I am a teacher myself and I know how much work goes into online learning. You have been forward thinking, responsive and mindful of this whole situation. Your quick response and the dedication of all the teachers was commendable. They did an amazing job! .

Daisy loves being a part of Danscentre, and the high quality of dance teaching she receives makes the considerable journey from Montrose worthwhile! She has had many wonderful and exciting experiences and opportunities during her time at Danscentre, and is looking forward to many more. The teaching she receives reaches far beyond dance alone and is helping her to develop many skills which will be an asset to her both in her current studies and in the future.
