We have just finish the foundation agility course at Barkley’s Dog Training Academy. This was our first attempt at agility with our bouncy doodle pup, and it has been so enjoyable. The course leaders, Gee & Victoria, were amazing. They are very knowledgeable as well as supportive to both dogs and owners. We were encouraged to practise new skills with Cooper at the meetings and ‘home work’ was given to develop those skills at home. Some weeks training at home and the exercises at the meetings went better than others but they always looked at the positives to encourage the enjoyment of our pup and develop the partnership of dog & owner. It has been great to have weekly feedback on classes including videos and the communication by Beth throughout the course WhatsApp group has been brilliant. It has been fascinating to see all dogs & owners develop their skills over these last 8 weeks. And we, and many others, are looking forward to the next agility course and are keen to continue to learn/develop our skills further with the support of the Barkley’s Dog Training Academy team.

We started Barkleys with our nervous German Shepherd puppy and she has absolutely loved it. Beth has been amazing and is so knowledgeable & always has the time to help you, even outside of the training room. Beth and the team at Barkleys provided some helpful training lessons for our 13 week pup. You learn everything you need to get your puppy behaving as you’d hope from commands like sit, lie, wait and stay, to recalls, drop and leave. The space was large and clean and it gave our puppy the chance to socialise with other dogs. The weekly homework videos were useful to keep the practice going on a daily basis. It was value for money too.

We really enjoyed working with Nick and have seen such a positive change in both Leo and ourselves. From the very start, he was approachable, friendly, and incredibly patient, making the whole process feel supportive and enjoyable. His knowledge really shone through, and the advice we received was both clear and practical. We loved having structured tasks to take home and work on, and the encouragement to send video updates for feedback really helped us stay on track. The guidance on things like place training has made a huge difference in our home life, and we’ve noticed a big improvement in Leo’s engagement and responsiveness more generally. Loose lead walking is definitely a work in progress, but it has improved greatly thanks to the strategies we were given. One of the biggest benefits has been the clarity in commands, which has given Leo much better direction and helped us build a stronger bond with him. Play sessions are now far more structured and rewarding, and overall our relationship with Leo feels more positive and connected. We’ve learnt so much and are really grateful for all the support. We’d highly recommend Nick to anyone looking for a knowledgeable and encouraging dog trainer.

As first time dog owner to a rescue dog we decided to get in early with training both for us and Monty. Learning the basics has been so useful as we were struggling with pulling on the lead and reactivity. We are all learning and improving all the time and feel far more confident after lessons with Nick. Yesterday Monty even managed off lead play with no issues and is loving his enrichment playtime

I contacted Bear Basics Academy after my two dogs got into a fight that left one of my dogs with a punctured paw. I knew I needed professional help as the resource guarding had gotten out of hand. We don't live close, so we opted for their online training and it was very helpful! Nick responded to the training videos I sent over, which he then criticised, so I knew what I was doing wrong and could improve. With management, obedience and confidence building, my two dogs are SO much happier and harmony has been restored in our house.
