“2025 Update: Strandtown Music Academy offers 1-1 lessons and group classes. They teach both adults and children aged 7 and above. Their tutors have a music degree and/or grade 8 in their main instrument. They also all have further postgraduate training from their director, Dr Gary Lutton, who has over 15 years of experience teaching music at the highest level. All tutors have up-to-date Access NI checks and undergo regular safeguarding training. They also run workshops and host open-mic nights and jam sessions, which are free for students. You can pay for your first trial lesson on the day of the lesson by card or cash. If you then decide to continue, lessons are paid monthly in advance. You will receive a link to pay via email each month. They have flexible plans to suit all budgets.”

Gary has been teaching me Guitar for about 1 year. I am 3 years into my Guitar journey.....I wish I had taken proper lessons earlier. He mixes theory with learning the songs you want to learn which has really helped my progress. I would recommend Gary to anyone who wants a great tutor. He is patient, enthusiastic and makes the lessons fun...oh and he can seriously play the Guitar.....which is an inspiration when you are learning.

My daughter started piano lessons a few months back and is really enjoying them. Her tutor Hannah has been so very supportive. Overall I am so impressed with the academy and how invested they are in their students development. My little girl is only 7 (a complete beginner) and had a lovely opportunity to perform recently in a showcase type event via the academy. I would definitely recommend Strandtown!

I’ve been studying with Gary for a couple of years now and wish I’d met him sooner! My playing has improved so much due to his excellent teaching. He has the ability to break things down so they’re easy to understand and teaches you how to actually apply them into your own playing no matter what style of music you’re in to. He’s patient, a good laugh and a nicer fella you couldn’t meet. I always look forward to lessons and if you’re looking to improve your guitar skills I’d recommend him to anyone!

I have had singing lessons with Becca for a number of years now. What began as something to improve my confidence, soon developed into me achieving a lifetime goal by obtaining a distinction in my Grade 8. Becca is an excellent teacher, has a wealth of personal experience, and truly understands the mechanics of the voice. Her warm, bubbly nature helped me to relax from day 1, and the difference in my voice and level of confidence is unbelievable. Highly recommend this school for anyone wanting to improve their skills!!

Fabulous music school! My son attained grade 6 singing with excellent coaching from Becca and my daughter is currently working towards grade 4. Becca is super encouraging and brings out the best in her. The music theory classes are also excellent, from the young kids classes right up through the grades. Really friendly family environment. Can’t say enough good things about the MFNI team: Becca, Garvin & Aoife!

Amazing School of Music! The Staffs are Brilliant. Becca have been so patient and helpful with all our queries. Ben McGarvey is our son’s piano teacher and all I can say is that he is very knowledgeable and talented person. Such an honor to have met him. Highly recommended school.

From the beginning, we discussed my goals and objectives from the lessons and he has always worked towards these. He was clear upfront about the likely time frame it would take to achieve and I have been very pleased with my progress under his tutelage. Technically, he has taught me things that I was unaware of and, by having greater awareness, I am now able to be much more consistent. Mick is very friendly and easy-going but is still honest enough to correct you where he sees the need. I would highly recommend anybody thinking about getting lessons to use Mick.

Fantastic. I started as a complete novice having never played an instrument before. The lessons with Mick have a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. He pushes you to get better within the limit of your ability and do not feel at all pressured, rather I would say I am encouraged. The amount I have progressed on the mandolin is extraordinary, I would never have believed that I can play the songs that I am currently working on.

Mick began teaching me the Ukulele 6 months ago. I started as a complete amateur and Mick has been very encouraging and has really helped me develop. The sessions are enjoyable and informative, and Mick sets me achievable goals. Mick is an excellent tutor and I would highly recommend him.
