I've never had a guitar lesson with Derek, but I've played quite a few gigs with him with different outfits and as a performer he knows his stuff (I'm a pro drummer). He's also mutual friends with one of my long term drum students who is a guitarist and does have experience and knowledge of his teaching, and he says very good things. If you want someone who is highly competent and actually passionate about teaching, I'd look no further than Derek.

I've been having guitar lessons with Derek for a few months. I had initially tried to self teach for around 18 months but ended up feeling a bit lost and lacked a sense of direction, coupled with making poor progress I decided I either need to give up or find a teacher. I've found Derek's lessons to be excellent, and I've improved far more than I thought possible. I particularly like how I've been taught new concepts via learning songs, which for me really helps reinforce things when you can see how they are applied practically. I also really appreciate Derek's ability to teach technique and his guidance how to practice, which I have found has accelerated my ability to learn songs effectively. I have far more inclination to play and have found much more enjoyment out of the instrument since starting lessons, when previously I was in the verge of giving up. Overall I would highly recommend Derek as a teacher.

I’ve been taking guitar lessons for about 5 months now, and I can’t recommend Derek enough! From day one, his teaching style has been patient, engaging, and tailored to my learning pace. Derek explains complex concepts clearly and is always willing to adjust the lesson to suit my needs. I’ve learned so much in a short amount of time! Derek is also always happy to teach me my favorite songs which makes him such a wonderful teacher! Not only is Derek a fantastic guitarist, but he's also an amazing teacher! Highly recommend to anyone looking to improve or start learning guitar (especially as an anxious adult) :) !

Excellent. I was a self-taught guitar thrasher but wanted to learn to play properly. Apart from being a top class musician Chris is also a great tutor so we achieved all the goals I had set myself. We also had a lot of FUN playing along , learning new songs & techniques with occasional chats about cycling & other interests. Top bloke & tutor, thoroughly enjoyable lessons even when done remotely on FaceTime. Definitely recommended.

Chris is knowledgeable, enthusiastic, a born teacher who can communicate his passion - and an all-round good guy. Highly satisfied, so highly recommended. I can add that the experience has just got better and better over time.
