“Country House Kennels & Cattery is a family-run business. Nina, David, Hashi, and Skye are the owners of the business and have put all their time and energy into making it the number one kennel and cattery in the area. They have a large team that is highly trained and skilled in looking after your pets. They are committed to delivering the highest level of pet boarding and grooming. Your dog will have soothing classical music played throughout their stay, along with a natural essential oil aroma proven to relax them. At midday, they will get a snack, cuddle, and brush, and a minimum of 20 minutes of exercise with specially chosen dog friends or a game with a human friend.

2025 Update: They have been caring since 1977, with a capacity of 70 dogs and 30 cats. Their main kennel block contains 20 large kennels and is used throughout the year for all dog sizes. All of the pets that enter their facility are treated as if they are part of the family, allowing you to have peace of mind while you are away from your pet.”

“Appledown Boarding Kennels provides heated and insulated accommodation. Each of their 30 boarding kennels can house up to 2 large dogs or 3 medium-sized dogs. All dogs are exercised on their own land daily, and should they stay with them for more than five days, each dog will receive a bath before coming home. Appledown Boarding Kennels provides a complimentary bath for dogs who stay for five days or more. They also provide a re-homing service for dogs.

“2025 Update: Lower Hortondale Kennels has 47 Kennels that are grouped into suites containing only four kennels each. Each block is a dedicated insulated brick building clad in wood to tastefully blend with the surrounding countryside. All with double-glazed windows and a split barn door style door. All are fitted with heat lamps and an oil-filled radiator as standard, used to take the chill out of the air and all night during the coldest of weather. All outdoor walkways and runs are cooled with water, and the evaporative process cools the air. They also have canopies to provide shade.”

First time of using Country House for a "sleep over" and very impressed - I thought it would be good as we use Country House for daycare one day a week. We were allowed to take Casie's own bed and toys to make her feel at home. We appreciated this to help make that first visit enjoyable. We saw the kennels before booking and again we were impressed with what we saw and how they were ran. Casie came out to us the following morning very happy so I can only assume that she did not find the experience traumatic! The staff at Country House, both at the weekend and during the week, are so friendly and always willing to chat and answer any questions. I would recommend Country House to anyone looking for daycare or kennels. Casie will be returning again for another "sleep over". Thank you Country House for taking good care of our pet - it is much appreciated.

I use Country House regularly for doggy daycare but first time as a boarding place. Very happy with the service. We we were able to take everything that made our dog's stay comfortable. Check in and out were very easy. Our dog came out very happy and we will be returning in two weeks for another stay. This time we will be relaxed as second time around we know she is well looked after and had a good time without us!! Would highly recommend Country House.

Just left our dog here for 10 days. It was the first time we have ever left him so we were quite anxious. We did an overnight a week before as a test run and he was great. A great little place and I got an instant vibe that my dog would be fine here. Would highly recommend. Will be planning my next holiday now that I have a secure place for my pup to go. Very reasonably priced too.

I found a blond female pug in the local park. I waited in the park for over half hour, no sign of the owner. I took the pug back to my home. I phoned Luton dog warden which was closed. When I went onto the Luton council website the contact details of Appledown boarding kennels was there. I phoned the number and a lady answered the phone I explained to how I found the pug. The lady asked could bring the dog to the kennels which was in Eaton Bray, so I about 20 minutes from Luton. When arrived at the kennels the lady was waiting for. She checked the pug was chipped and she was, but the wasn't registered to an owner. The lady kennels explained what will happen to the pug. The said they will give the dog a health check with a vets. The lady had kennel for the for pug, where the dog would safe, feed and warm. I do apologise for not knowing the owners name. Appledown offer a great service to the local community. Thank you very much for your assistance and good luck with finding the owner.

We found an extremely ill treated but sweetheart of a dog. Having 2 dogs & 3 cats ourselves & unsure of dogs needs/temperament were advised by Barton lodge to take to apple down. (1& only bit of good advice vets offered) appledown quickly & efficiently noted dogs needs & made him safe & welcome. Friendly, kind, caring staff assured & comforted us that the dog was in safe hands. Huge respect & thanks to Toyah & her dad. You are the unsung heroes of today. Keep up the good work. Look forward to hearing of the rottie cross’s progress. Someone will be blessed to have him as a pet.

This is such a wonderful charity and they do amazing work for dogs who need help. Please support them in any way you can, either via donations or helping to exercise the dogs that are there already. All help is gratefully received.

We we're so impressed during our meet & greet with Sami at Hortondale. She spent so much time with us and our boys Hunter & Rudy, answering any questions and putting our minds at rest. The boys have just come back from a 7 day stay, we had no concerns at all and the updates/photos we received of all the fun they we're having was really appreciated. Thank you so much Sami and team for taking such good care of our boys. Highly recommended, I really hope they have availability to look after our boys again in the near future.

Hortondale Kennels are just the best! We have used them for years and seen the place grow and become so successful under Kevin and Julie's ownership. They, and their staff give so much love and care to dogs in their care. Highly recommended!

We have always had a brilliant experience with Sami and everyone who works here. All my dogs love going to daycare and the team are so understanding!! The team are very attentive and always feed back!! Just brilliant
