Early 14th-century moated country house - The house is an L-shaped castellated block, with a great hall that stands upon an undercroft and was originally reached by an exterior stone staircase - The present house was built by John de Markenfield

Mon - Fri 9:30 am - 1:30 pm Sat & Sun Closed

This is a must see house. A moated house still in original condition, lovingly and sensitively restored and still being used as a family home. This is a highlight but needs planning because it is only open on certain days. A guide is essential and we were lucky to have the main guide who is also a family friend. So a knowledge of the house being used as a family home is communicated to us in a comprehensive tour. Fabulous main living space, with nice bedrooms, etc. Always best to check first.

Incredible place to visit on a dry September day. Firstly, the 11:00 am guided Abbey tour was taken and an hour and a half later our appetite for the rest was wetted. Fantastic informative tour- thank you. So much photo opportunity following up from our tour both in and around the abbey and also the Studley water gardens. The perimeter walk on good maintained pathways, gives an overall perspective of the grand site and the stunning water gardens. Beautiful lake walk, stunning forest walk.

This is one of three museums in Ripon and the smallest but located very close to the Cathedral in a garden area. Friendly greeting when we arrived and we could walk round at our own pace. Lots of interesting bits of information to read and the courtroom set up was different. Reading about the harsh sentences given for sometimes what seemed a small crime. Worth visiting but recommend purchasing a ticket to see all three rather than pay for one at a time.
