“Courthouse Museum has remained virtually unchanged since its construction in 1830. The Courthouse Museum was built to replace the medieval Courthouse of Quarter Sessions and features the Jury Room, Justices' Retiring Room, and Court Room. Each room reflects the history of local government and the judicial system. The Courthouse Museum's permanent displays showcase the courthouse's past and its use over time. In 2005, the interiors were remodelled to match the original colour scheme used when the building opened in Michaelmas 1830. Courthouse Museum offers free admission for children aged 5 and under.

2025 Update: Courthouse Museum consists of 3 rooms and an entrance hall.”

MARKENFIELD HALL REVIEWS

Markenfield is a delightful venue for a special occasion, the people who run it are unfailingly friendly and helpful, I attended a Wedding where the Chris White Jazz Trio were playing adding a touch of class.

This is an amazing historic place.It is very picturesque with its moats and private chapel.The library is restful and pleasant.I could spend hours sitting here reading.This was my second visit and I will definitely come again.

A wonderful ancient Hall. The guide that showed us around is a wealth of information about the history of Markenfield Hall. An absolute must for people interested in historic houses, but check days open as it's only open certain times of year.

FOUNTAINS ABBEY REVIEWS

Your guide was very knowledgeable and provided good info. Pointed out many interesting aspects and encouraged exploring after your at own leisure. Bring good walking boots for comfort. Mix of field walking and paved trail. Worth a good visit, allow plenty of time for gardens and walk around lake. The smaller cafe at the end of the tour was nice. As always with National Trust tea shops the food is on the pricier end for what it is. Tables were self bus (Ie if you ate or drank take your dishes on tray back to the collection point! Come on people!!) There is a shuttle that will take you back to the top entrance if not able to make the walk back which has a grade to it.

One of the best National Trust properties and grounds. From the Abbey, magnificent in size and grandeur, to the water gardens and the long walks around the grounds. The restaurant is excellent with a nice team running it. Car parking is easy and there is lots of it. Dog friendly on a lead. Lots of follies to go and find.

Wow what a beautiful place. The Abbey, grounds, gardens, mill, children’s play area and house are all fabulous. Staff are friendly and helpful. The grounds are vast so make sure you have your walking shoes on. Highly recommend.

COURTHOUSE MUSEUM REVIEWS

Nice little museum but best to join it up with the other two close b and buy a season ticket even if you don't intend going back to Ripon. For a small family a group ticket which is cheaper than buying individual tickets. Then go see the old police station and gaol and the workhouse museums. All close by.

If you're in the area I recommend visiting all the museums and buying a pass to visit all three. Lots of local history and it's fascinating reading about local history and gives a little insight to history and how things have changed and what it used to be like.

An excellent example of an 18th C courthouse. History of transportations all in its original state.
