Brilliant coaching, I've been training for a while now, have been to my fair share of gyms and seen plenty of coaches, and Alex is a superb teacher, very knowledgeable and approaches the sport in a very accessible way. Definitely recommend going down whether you're looking for somewhere to train at full time, or if you already train and would like to get a different perspective on the sport.

I decided to start BJJ to improve my fitness levels and learn how to defend myself. I did feel a bit nervous walking into a new club and starting a sport I knew nothing about but I was immediately put at ease by everyone at Black Dog.
Everyone was really friendly and welcoming, and that makes all the difference to create an supportive atmosphere whilst you're learning new skills. Both Alex and Oly are really knowledgeable and break down the techniques in a way that makes it relatable to people instead of baffling them with jargon, and teach the fundamentals in a way that means they can be adapted to different situations, which I find really useful.

Decided to bite the bullet over a month ago and try a taster session at the gym and Iv not looked back since!! A very welcoming team and I would recommend it to anyone especially women to get involved!!
Members of the club are very encouraging and genuinely want to see each other improve as much as they want to improve themselves. When rolling or doing drills, everyone communicates well and are very considerate of each other when sparring with different skill levels, genders and age ranges which I personally feel makes me feel respected and safe when rolling.

My kids thoroughly enjoy there training here. Mel is fantastic with the kids, he instills in them, confidence, self discipline, self awareness without them even knowing it. All the while teaching them invaluable self defence skills in a relaxed friendly family environment.

One of the best gyms I have been to, been training for 7 months here, excellent atmosphere, small community and feels more like a family than partners. The coach has a long experience with coaches like Erik Paulson who's one the best BJJ Practitioners.

My son started here over 15 months ago in the children's class twice a week, he loves going and it has taught him respect, discipline and confidence. I was that impressed with how welcome Mel and the other students make you feel I plucked up the courage and started myself 9 months ago. Best thing I ever did. Mel is fantastic with all the children and adults and makes you feel like you can achieve in martial arts. Would highly recommend you give it ago.
