Ian Poole is the driving force behind Cardiff Drums. Ian Poole has made a number of appearances on HTV and BBC Wales during assorted concerts and demonstrations.

2025 Update: Ian Poole’s private teaching practice has been running for over 15 years. His professional teaching experience is founded on 6 years of participation in the Drumsense programme, which forms the basis for his lessons and study courses. The programme helps students develop an understanding of different musical styles and connects written notation with the practical experience of playing music. Lessons take place in a fully equipped teaching studio with recording and playback facilities, and a wide range of reference materials are used, including CDs, DVDs, and reading texts.”

My two daughters have been attending IMS Piano School, and their piano teacher, Immanuel, is extremely professional and attentive. After each lesson, he provides individualized lesson notes for both children, helping them practice course materials with a clear purpose. At the end of the summer and winter term, they organise a small recital where all the children have the opportunity to showcase their talent on stage. I highly recommend this school to anyone interested in music. They offer not only piano, violin, and guitar lessons but also vocal lessons and more.

Thank you Immaneul for guiding and continually inspiring Gwyn on his piano playing in the last few years. Music lessons require practise and dedication but Gwyn never find learning with IMS boring. Immanuel is an excellent and dedicated teacher. He makes great effort to understand and develop each individual's musical skills to the highest standards possible at every stage. Gwyn has not only advanced technically but also matured musically in the last few months, especially in higher grade learning. We are proud of Gwyn's achievements today and highly recommend anyone to receive tuition from IMS.

My child has been learning violin at IMS for almost two years now. His teacher is excellent — patient, supportive, and highly skilled. IMS organizes performances before Christmas and summer break, giving students the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of family and friends. It’s always a delight to see so many different instruments and talented children. This school is truly a hidden gem in the city.

FORTE SCHOOL OF MUSIC REVIEWS

My daughter has been studying at Forte for a number of years. The staff are all very approachable and helpful in any personal goals a student might have and seem to go above and beyond in their efforts to help. The school is located very centrally at Danescourt with adequate parking so attending class is very straightforward. One of the pluses at Forte for us is being part of a school teaching a whole range of instruments rather than one teacher teaching one instrument. It makes for a more exciting atmosphere where students have the opportunity to feel part of a wider musical experience. The school also offers a festival every year where students can showcase their new found skills. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the school to anyone looking for first class musical tuition.

Really enjoyed working with Forte School of Music and all their students at their annual concert...such enthusiastic and talented musicians.

Very creative teachers, great desk and administration team.

CARDIFF DRUMS REVIEWS

Having been bought some starter lessons for Christmas I pretty soon got the bug! Ian has an excellent teaching style and relaxed manner which changed my thinking from the initial I cant do this, to buying my own drums and practicing at home. Although I still have a very very long way to go, Ian has given me a great start and I would recommend him to anybody wanting drum lessons.

I have come to learn to play the drums late in life, at 55, and have been having lessons with Ian for several months. Ian is a great teacher and does not push the learning, but allows you to develop and progress at your own pace. He is very flexible on when you need to have your lessons and what you want to learn in each lesson.

Ian is a great teacher and uses some very useful teaching techniques that have helped me make good progress. I was a complete beginner and have been taking lessons with Ian for about 3 months now. He shows great patience and encouragement which have enabled me to build confidence. I’d recommend Ian to anyone interested in drums lessons.
