We visited the Verulamium Museum as part of a day trip to St Albans. It is a small museum and there is an entrance fee. We bought a family ticket (£16) which included entry to nearby Roman Theatre site. When purchased together they are good value for money. The Verulamium museum is one of the best Roman exhibits that I have visited. The exhibits are nicely presented and informatively described without overloading you with too much detail. The history of the third largest city in Roman Britain.

I knew I was going to have time to kill after leaving Heathrow after my long overnight flight and before my hotel north of London would be available, so I planned a stop at the Royal National Rose Society Gardens near St. Albans. I arrived at 10 am as the gates were opened, and walked into a rosey wonderland. As I live in a part of the world where only the hardy roses survive, it was amazing to see the variety of roses growing happily here in this plant-friendly environment.

Great place come for a day trip.Staff were so friendly and informative and many even had real life experiences during the war time. One gentleman told us great stories such as collecting shrapnel as a young boy which he then sold at the scrap yard in order to buy broken biscuits at the bakers! Children can also collect a quiz which was quite a challenge yet well worth doing. It was really cool how you got to actually go inside the some of the planes and even sit in some of them. I recommend it.
