“Air Raid Shelters offers an independent guided tour of a purpose-built underground tunnel network used as wartime shelters. Air Raid Shelters consists of almost 1 mile of underground air-raid shelters dug under Stockport. They were constructed six miles south of Manchester during World War II to protect local inhabitants during air raids. Here, visitors have the opportunity to learn about the experiences of local people during the war. They can explore the displays in the tunnels and use the state-of-the-art audio guides. Mementoes from the 1940s are also presented here. Visitors can book a time slot before their visit, as only a limited number of tickets will be available daily for walk-up visitors.”
