This was my first visit to Marwell and I was very impressed. The grounds are very nice, the enclosures are well kept with lots of space and the animals all looked in amazing condition. There are certainly plenty to see too. There are lots of picnic areas dotted around which is nice but also a good selection of cafes and huts for food & beverages. I've visited quite a few zoos and parks, this is definitely one of the best. The new tropical house which opens in the Spring of next year.

This museum depicts the history of the Gurkha fighting men, yes men, forming various regiments, called from their villages to serve the Crown. Their heroism is depicted on some tableau's and stories of some battles/encounters, but their bravery, loyalty is recorded fittingly in lists of wards from Victoria Cross's to DSM's. If interested in military history you will see first hand and feel how privileged you are, to having seen this museum ---, you can almost sense their presence.

Newly reopened after the ground floor was refurbished, the Winchester City Museum gives an interesting insight into the city's history. On the ground floor there is a fantastic model of the city with interactive screens showing where places are and a short film gives information about attractions. The other two floors house artefacts and objects ranging from Roman glassware to medieval stonework from various buildings. The staff were very friendly, welcoming and happy to answer questions.
