Cartwright Hall Art Gallery was built on the former site of Manningham Hall and opened as a gallery in 1904. Their learning team runs a program of workshops and events for schools, groups, and individuals. The collections consist mainly of 19th and 20th-century British art with strong international modern prints and contemporary South Asian art and crafts collections. Cartwright Hall Art Gallery has been collecting prints for over one hundred years, and their collection includes works by master printmakers. Cartwright Hall Art Gallery is also the perfect place to relax and enjoy a good coffee. Free admission and Wi-Fi are available here. South Square Centre plays an important part in Thornton's cultural life by providing community exhibitions and events. The community events and activities for all ages, including an ongoing workshop programme, provide community spaces. The centre is home to ten studio spaces for a variety of artists, as well as a gallery, community spaces, an archive, a bar, and a cafe. They now host regular exhibitions, classes, workshops, and live music events. They also offer workshops alongside their contemporary art programme, and they are committed to providing a platform and opportunities for new artists and curators. South Square Centre provides Young Curator Placement, Thornton's Crown Summer School, and Visual Arts Festivals.

2025 Update: Their main gallery has moved to the ground floor, making it easier for wheelchair users to access. The café, bar, and toilets are also located on the ground floor. Upstairs, the Community Room and Unit 9 Gallery are now accessible via the stair lift.
