“St. Mary's Cathedral was designed in Gothic Revival architecture by Alexander Ellis, and the construction was completed in 1860. The church is one of the most significant parish buildings in the heart of Aberdeen city centre. The cathedral serves as a multicultural parish dedicated to seeking the faith and glory of God through prayer and worship. The bells were cast in 1876, and the spires were constructed the same year. St. Mary's Cathedral has a calm and peaceful ambience, attracting people from neighbouring communities to attend prayers, worship, and masses. Originally serving the rapidly growing population, the church was expanded as the community grew to 74,000 people and was later elevated to cathedral status.

2025 Update: St. Mary's Cathedral provides music led by the Aberdeen African Choir at 11 am on the third sunday.”

“Kirk of St Nicholas has been at the heart of Aberdeen, providing spiritual worship and refuge since its ancient establishment in the 12th century. The church was known as the "Kirk of St Nicholas Uniting" and also known as "The Mither Kirk" of the city. Kirk of St Nicholas is a sacred structure and tells the story of this wealthy city and its inhabitants. ST MACHAR'S CATHEDRAL REVIEWS

Beautiful architecture and very peaceful inner sanctuary. The masonry and carpentry internal decor was nice to admire. Interesting historical exhibits available within the church so its a nice pitstop if you're in the area. Not too sure about parking availability and costs near the church but I followed the other vehicles in the vicinity so might be worth planning beforehand to avoid potential fines.

My favorite place. I used to walk through here almost everyday. It's incredibly beautiful. Inside the cathedral is beautiful, peaceful and Very serene. The immense age of the building and grounds give an intense feeling. It has undergone wonderful restoration and full functionality both as a cathedral and museum.

Absolutely stunning Cathedral and fascinating history. The architecture is beautiful and surreal. This is a walk into ancient Scotland history. My tour guide, Neil, was kind and incredibly knowledgeable of this cathedrals' vast timelines. A great choice while in Aberdeen

When it comes to worship and reverence to God and also communion with other members of the faithful, St Mary of the Assumption Catholic Cathedral takes first place! With the angelic choir, befitting pew setting and piano and the adorable picture and paintings adorning the walls and columns, St Mary is the one place to be and be closer to the Almighty Creator in worship and prayers. I personally feel connected to the Supreme Being whenever I worship inside of this marvellous and ancient church. I look forward to being here in the church when next I am in Aberdeen or any place nearby. Ciao.

It is a great place for Catholics to gather for Sunday mass and more. It is a lot of events happening there and people there are such a joy to be with too. St Marys Church is a beautiful architectural building which worth seeing from the inside out. Prayers are there in English, Polish and Spanish now. It also could be in Lithuanian as it is a Lithuanian community in Aberdeen that would be happy if this would become a reality too. I recommend to all visitors/tourists in Aberdeen to add this building to their visited place list to come and see this amazing architecture.

A good place to meet the Almighty. The entire community deserves great credit for this. However, it is impossible to overlook the proper attitude of the parish priest and priests. Thanks to them, this place has an open and friendly character

KIRK OF ST NICHOLAS REVIEWS

On doors open day you can explore the archeological dig site, but normally you can visit the church and marvel at its beauty. They have a large folder inside with a catalogue of photos from the archeological dig. Inside the church is beyond beautiful with Marcellus stained glass windows, definitely somewhere you should visit if you’re in the city centre. The old kirkyard has so many beautiful, exquisitely decorated old graves and infoboards explaining who’s who, with a lot of historically important peoples graves within the grounds and old graves that are hundreds of years old. The kirkyard is a beautiful wee walk, somewhere that’s beautiful at all times of year.

The church was closed but we visited the cemetery. Although the cemetery is not kept well at all, we enjoyed our visit.

Such a beautiful place despite the sad history. Love that there is an offshore chapel.
