“St James Church is one of the leading churches in Reading, UK. The church is a Grade II listed building with a Norman design, a style not usually linked to Pugin, likely influenced by the nearby Abbey ruins. The exterior of the building is made of flint, with ashlar dressings and a Roman tile roof. Construction began in 1837, and the church opened on August 5, 1840. In 1925, the south aisle and the ambulatory around the apse were added. Then, in 1962, the church was extended again with the addition of a north aisle, where the baptistery was moved. The church is located next to the Reading Abbey ruins, between Forbury Gardens and Reading Gaol.”
