Sheffield Cathedral was initially a parish church elevated to Cathedral status in 1914. It is one of the oldest buildings present in the Sheffield community. The church is also listed in the Grade-I buildings list and the Town Hall. Sheffield Cathedral building's construction dates back to 1200, but the new construction was completed in 1966 with a mixture of medieval and modern architecture. The cathedral has accessible toilets and baby changing facilities. The building and the cathedral belltower was damaged in a fire accident in 1979. It also has an organ which is still used by the choir. St Marie's Cathedral serves hundreds of visitors from the neighbouring community and foreigners for its famous liturgical worship. St Mary’s Church is one of the famous churches in Sheffield. The church is a hopeful community of people, of all faiths and none, and a place of Christian worship mobilised to break cycles of poverty, injustice and isolation. St Mary’s Church community centre is a separate charity founded by the church to deliver projects which bring people together to address the chronic social problems of poverty and loneliness. They run a whole host of events through the church and community centre.
