St Mary, Wigan was built in 1818 and is a Grade II* listed building. The church is in the Wigan deanery of the Archdiocese of Liverpool. The church is within 200 feet of another Catholic church, St John's Church. They were built in a spirit of rivalry with one another. The foundation stone was laid on 17 March 1818, and the church was opened on 27 January 1819. Known as "The Hidden Gem," St Mary was initially served by a priest from St Mary's Church in Manchester. The church was only with the restoration of the English Catholic hierarchy in 1850 that St Mary became part of the Archdiocese of Liverpool. The church offers two Sunday Masses: one at 9:00 am and another at 4:30 pm.

2025 Update: St Mary, Wigan, provides wheelchair accessibility for car parking and the entrance.

St Matthew's Church is an active Anglican church that was built between 1892 and 1894. The church was designed by Austin & Paley, and the construction was done using Runcorn red sandstone. The church is well-known for its historical architecture and is considered a masterpiece constructed in the Early English style. St Matthew's Church has active groups to serve all ages of people from the community with their individual and religious needs. The church is a Grade II listed building and is one of the oldest churches serving the locality. The church has an excellent atmosphere and environment. The stained glass windows and the organ present in the church are the highly reviewed features of the church. The organ still provides beautiful music for the choir and various events.
