Catherine was one of my first pupils when I started teaching and now brings her daughter Lara to classes… ? In 1995 I started Topaz at the age of 6 after nagging my mum and dad to do dancing. I absolutely loved dancing and I loved exam time at Topaz and even more the shows, its crazy how after years if I hear a song I know I danced to I remember dancing to it on the show. The photo is of me at around 8 we had danced to an Irish song and this photo was also part of a group photo. Unfortunately I suffered an injury in my leg at the age of 14 which took me out of dancing and I focused on my education. Fast forward to 2016 I was back at Topaz but this time I was bringing my 3 yr old daughter to Topaz. Wow it is so much more emotional now for me than I ever remembered. I watched her do her first show in 2018 and I sobbed with joy at watching her follow in my footsteps and she loved it. I am so proud of how far she has come on over the years. Since joining she loves coming to dancing and she loves to do her exams and see her progress. She loves her teachers and I cannot thank the girls for teaching her and giving her this experience. A massive thankyou to Ann who helped me establish who and what I wanted to be and for paving the way for my baby girl she absolutely adores you and I love reminiscing on my time with her, she loves looking through my reports from my exams. Topaz is a massive part of my life. Thankyou.

I started at Topaz in 1995 and have been a member of the Topaz family ever since! Dancing at Topaz has been a huge part of my life and has definitely impacted what I have achieved and who I am as an individual. When I first started at Topaz I was very shy and quiet, dancing and performing helped my confidence and self belief to grow and I don’t think I would have done half the things I have in life if it wasn’t for this.

I joined Topaz as a Tiny aged 4 and I have never looked back since! From dancing horsey horsey with my teddy bear in tinies, to being Alice in Wonderland and the Fairy God-Mother on my pointe shoes... and even a crocodile for tap! Dancing has been a huge part of my life! Topaz is more than just a dancing school, it is a family. The support I revieved throughout my GCSE's, A-Levels and University Exams is second to none. I never wanted to leave! Alongside my academic studies, I competed all of my dancing exams in Tap and Ballet up to Advanced level with Miss Ann and Kate and progressed onto my teaching qualification with Miss Ann. Not only did attending Topaz help me to relax and take my mind off studying for a while. Dancing also helped me in gaining a place in University to study my degree in Physiotherapy! I spent most of my evenings and weekends at Topaz, helping out Miss Ann, Miss Kate and Miss Amy wherever I could. This gave me something to look forward to after being in school or University and a break from sitting down and learning all day! Dancing sparked my interest in my career, I always wanted to know more about how to stretch and strengthen my body to improve my dancing abilities. When I started studying for my degree, there was always plenty of people asking for advice too, which helped my assessment skills! For the past 6 years, I have now worked full time as a Physiotherapist for the NHS and privately in a variety of working areas; out-patients, neuro rehab, orthopaedics, pilates, intensive care and so many more! Even though I am working full-time, I still continue to go to Topaz for my own classes and to teach my lovely (now) Grade One's -- some of which I have taught since tinies! Dancing and teaching now is just as important for me. A time to relieve any stresses from work! All's it takes is a cheesy dance routine and you're guaranteed to leave with a smile! I owe a lot to Topaz; my love of dancing, interest in my career, my happiest memories and best friends! Miss Ann and the team are just amazing and have been such a big part of my life. They kept me going during all my studies, and now I keep them going, offering advice were I can to help them to recover through any injuries!.
