“Karen Shiel School of Dance was established in 1998 in a small church hall with just a handful of pupils. Since then, they have grown and expanded and now have their own three-studio dance centre in Shiney Row. They offer a wide range of dance subjects to suit all, from beginners to professional dancers. They are proud to be associated with the British Theatre Dance Association, ID-Company, Acrobatic Arts, and Progressing Ballet Technique. Karen Shiel School of Dance offers students the opportunity to gain recognised graded qualifications, perform in professional theatre shows, and take part in local and national competitions. This school has made such a difference to my daughter. She has grown in confidence, acting and dancing ability. The opportunities are endless working with top dancers from the west end, shows in the Tyne Theatre, auditions for tv and working with the top Ballet companies that's without the opportunities to take examinations! it has been amazing for her to have the opportunity to be a part of this for the last four years. I am very proud of her achievements, the progress and growth I have seen and can't thank the team enough for all of the support and guidance they have given her. If you are looking for a dance school this is the one!.

I attended this stage school until I was 18 years old. It not only gave me first class training and built my confidence, it helped me learn discipline and prepared me for life. When I had my own daughter and she expressed an interest in dancing, I knew I wouldn't want her to train anywhere else. The school is more than just a dance school, it has become part of my family where I have made friends for life. I am certain my daughter is in very capable hands and is making memories she will treasure always.

I was a member of this stage school from the age of 4 and when it came to choosing a dance school for my daughter I wouldnt look any further than Kathleen Davis. The teaching is second to none and the care all the staff members give is fantastic. My daughter is now 16 and in her 13th year at this amazing dance school which has taught her so much and I watch in amazement at the talent that this school nurtures year after year!.

I cannot recommend the worx enough. They are a great team and put heart and sole into everything the do. I've seen the shy kids turn into entertainers with character and sass on stage and this is down the hard work and encouragement given by the principals and support and of course the ease and comfort from the worx family.

Amazing dance school - that allows each child to grow and develop at their own pace. So many wonderful opportunities given to the kids and teachers who really bring out the best in every single child x.

Best decision sending my daughter here.. Teachers are fabulous Technique and work ethic is insane.. All parents and kids are lovely such a giod dance school.

My daughter has been going to Karen’s since she was 3yrs old. I took her to build her confidence as she was very quiet. Karen, Shirley and all the teachers care so much about every child, they take time to know them all and treat them as their own. My daughter has never gone on to perform in competitions or shows but still loves her classes every week. There is no pressure to sit exams or perform on stage. Lovely group of children where discipline in key and no child is left out. They understand that all children are different and what is an achievement looks like differs from child to child. Could not recommend this dance school enough. Additionally fees / costs are low with only 1 small increase in the 7yrs we have been going.

My daughter has danced here for over 6 years and loves it. It’s like being part of a family. The teachers are all brilliant and the right mix of fun but firm. Everyone is supportive of each other and the students learn so much more in addition to dance technique; they learn about cooperation; working together; being a good team mate; respect amongst so many others. The curriculum choice offered in terms of variety of classes is exceptional and no one is pushed into joining more or taking on anything they’re not ready for.

I really enjoyed my first tap and modern dance lesson. The teachers were very welcoming as were the children. They all helped me learn new things in a very short time.
