The Lamproom Theatre aims to develop and maintain a community theatre by creating an equitable spectrum of creative activities to benefit and improve local people and visitors quality of life. Under the leadership and enthusiasm of John Kelly and over 100 patrons, subscribers and volunteers, 'The People's Theatre' launched in 1999 as The Lamproom Theatre with a 186-seat auditorium for performances. The theatre's recently refurbished auditorium, with miners' lamps, is a fitting reminder of South Yorkshire heritage. In addition, it has two large public car parks for its visitors' comfort. The Lamproom Theatre hosts a wide range of shows and activities in its vast space. The core activity of the theatre is to promote and advance theatrical arts within and for the entire community of Barnsley and the surrounding areas.
