Elsecar Heritage Centre is a vibrant historical site featuring art and craft workshops, historic exhibits, shops, and a children's play area. The building was originally used for ironworks, forges, a distillery, and engineering workshops. The Centre has stores, galleries, studios for art and design, and exhibition space and covers the area's industrial history. The Centre runs art displays, special programmes, and a monthly fair for antiques. Elsecar Heritage Centre is home to the world's Newcomen steam engine, which is still in its original position. The engine was listed in 1972 as a designated ancient site. During the period 2012-14, the engine was returned to working condition. Their reservoir has been transformed into a nature reserve with diverse wildlife. Elsecar Heritage Centre makes a perfect day out for families.
