“Greyfriars is perfect for a leisurely walk and photo opportunities. The place is one of England's most well-preserved living Dominican friaries. The friary was rebuilt in the Perpendicular Gothic style around 1518, thanks to the Berkeley family of Berkeley Castle. This reconstruction incorporated elements of the earlier church, but the friary was short-lived, as it was surrendered to the king in 1539 during the suppression of the monasteries. Today, Greyfriars is a popular destination with its gallery and cloisters. The friary followed the typical monastic layout, with a large church, chapter house, refectory, dormitory, and other buildings arranged around a central cloister.”
