ATHENA GREEK TAVERNA & CAFE REVIEWS

A warm greeting on our arrival and efficient and courteous service. Our starters arrived quickly and we ordered a nice big carafe of Greek wine. Our food was freshly cooked from just behind us in the kitchen where the smell of the lamb and chicken added to a chilled atmosphere. No cod Greek music and the high ceiling of the former school hall allowed people to talk with a pleasant rumble without being intrusive. The mains were delicious and the cheesecake puddings were the best I've had in a very long time beautifully smooth and decadent and when I walked to try mine with strawberries AND cherries the lady in the kitchen granted my wish with a laugh and a big smile. Lovely chatting to the chef at the end of the evening and congratulations on a lovely restaurant.

I visited Athena tonight in a small group and the atmosphere in there was lovely, service with a smile. The food is cooked fresh and I appreciated that time is needed to get the best experience. Starters came out promptly and we had the fish platter which was amazing.

I really love Greek food and the meal we had was as authentic as you can get outsider Greece. A big open kitchen where you can see the meals being prepared. We had a lovely meal and the owners were warm and welcoming. Well worth a visit.

Absolutely wonderful! The staff were very attentive and accommodating for our group. The food was incredible and some of the best tapas I’ve ever had, everyone enjoyed each dish and were very complimentary. Thank you again we will definitely be back! Places this good are hard to find.

Have been meaning to try this place for a while but not always easy to get a table. Luckily we managed on a Friday eve and can see why. We were impressed - having just come back from a month in Spain this place can compete well. Fresh and tasty food, good size portions, friendly service and great wine selection also. Final bill very good value for such excellence.. pork cheeks and chicken so tender - worth a mention.. we have booked again to take our family next week..

The food was delicious, the service was friendly and the atmosphere was great, music was on point with the Gipsy Kings mixed in with other well chosen tracks. Each dish was packed with flavour, well presented and tasted amazing, enough to leave you wanting more, but with a nice selection of plates left you feeling full. Ideal if you go as a larger group as you can select more to try but equally satisfying as a couple. I would highly recommend, I only wish we had been sooner, but we will definitely be visiting again soon.

We had a fantastic time here, thank you to all the staff for making us so welcome and for such amazing food! We want for a family birthday and had the Sunday dinner options, although our 10 year old did the make your own pizza. Which was perfect for her! The roast beef option was epic! With the beef done perfectly, tasty gravy and all the trimmings you would expect. We thought this was well priced. You can have the rest of the menu to, but not as.good value on a Sunday, but the quality of the chicken dish my wife had was really food. Ample parking here and I would highly recommend.

My recent visit to Ego at the Grapes was an absolute delight! We opted for the veggie Sunday roast, and it exceeded our expectations. The flavors were rich and satisfying. The apple pie with custard and the rhubarb and gin crumble with custard were divine desserts that added a perfect sweet note to our meal.

As usual, a very good meal, all four of us enjoyed their own choice of meals, we had good, and very pleasant, efficient service. A wide choice of dishes. The only downside was the level of noise, a friend of ours has hearing aids, he found it difficult to follow conversations due to back ground noise. We appreciate the room was full, and busy, so do not expect this to spoil our future enjoyment.
