It was a miserable wet day and so it seemed like a good idea to visit the museum. Surprisingly, it is free entry, but donations are welcome. We spent a lot of time in the military section until my brain would not take in any more. I wished that I had left my husband in that part and concentrated more on the social side. The museum is well laid out and I would be happy to return if we are in that part of the country again. Thanks to everyone involved.

This museum has some lovely model ships downstairs and an old rowing boat which enhance the historical displays and explain the great history of the old port of Lancaster. Upstairs, there are further exhibits including a beautifully made mock up of a packet boat on the Lancaster Canal. You can go inside, sit and relax and listen to audio memoirs, while admiring the scenery, nicely painted views of the countryside. If you look ahead there is a model of a life size. All very interesting.

Having visited this place many years ago I never thought of putting it on trip advisor but today I must... because it is good to share something as nice as this with other travellers. The gardens are best explored in full bloom when the seasons are just right. Mid Spring to early Summeris perfect. You will not loose our if you miss one season as the abundance of blooms is like a wave continuous and never ending so you will not be missing out. Late October would be the cut off for colour.
