I have always visited the Modern Art in Oxford and have seen exhibitions that I loved and seen stuff I didn't like much. That is the way Modern Art challenges and/or impresses us. Most recently we went and I was a bit undecided about the artists work. The gallery spaces themselves are very professional and well laid out. We were meeting friends in the restaurant and the food was superb. It is a lovely bright and open space too. If you are into serious Art then Modern Art is ideal.

I popped into the gallery on Broad Street as I had time to kill . I was greeted by a well spoken, well mannered member of staff; who was most gracious. I was offered coffee whist I was there; and given an informative guided tour of the works on display despite the fact that I was not there to buy. I was then offered a subsequent guided tour of the Ashmolean (which I took up); and was treated to an incitive history of art tour. There was never any sales pitch. Just an enthusiasm to share.

I visited this twice it was so good! Incredible collection of paintings from 14 century onwards. The artworks are displayed at a sensible height, you can get very close to them and they reward intense looking. Not all the paintings are in top condition but the Fran Hals, the Bassano, the Giovanni di Paolo, the Piero dells Francesca were my personal favourites. The staff were very welcoming and the place is so quiet, a real treat in this overrun town. Highly recommended.
