St Johns Walkies
I handle emergencies, bad weather, injuries, and behaviour issues with a calm, safety-first approach, always prioritising the wellbeing of every dog in my care. In the event of an emergency or injury, I would immediately secure all dogs safely, assess the situation, and contact the owner and/or veterinary professional straight away if required. I carry emergency contact details at all times and ensure I am prepared to act quickly and responsibly. I am up to date with practical canine first aid training and carry a fully equipped first aid kit with me at all times. This enables me to provide immediate basic care if needed, including administering canine CPR if required and bandaging wounds to stabilise a dog until veterinary treatment can be accessed. In hot weather and heatwaves, I follow safe handling guidelines and prioritise the dogs’ welfare above all else. I do not walk dogs once temperatures reach 23°C or above; in these conditions, walks are cancelled and a suitable alternative plan is put in place to ensure the dogs remain safe, comfortable, and appropriately cared for. For bad weather in general, I adapt walks accordingly, shortening or adjusting routes during heavy rain, ice, or unsafe conditions to ensure dogs are not put at risk or made uncomfortable. If behavioural issues arise during walks, I manage them calmly and appropriately, using experience to maintain control, reduce stress, and ensure group safety. Dogs are carefully matched within small groups, which helps reduce behavioural challenges and supports a stable, well-managed environment. Overall, my approach is proactive, attentive, and focused on maintaining safe, positive experiences for every dog in my care.
