“Broughty Castle Museum is designated as a Grade I listed building, and the castle was initially constructed in 1490 by Andrew, who was awarded the castle that year. The Castle Museum features four main floors and offers captivating displays of the life and times of Broughty Ferry, people, the local environment, and nearby wildlife. The castle also explores the military history of the 16th-century Rough Wooing conflict. Visitors can enjoy live event performances, engaging game activities, and various exhibits. “Caird Hall is a concert auditorium, and the hall is a category A listed building. Caird Hall has hosted an impressive array of concerts that cemented its place in Scotland's live music scene. The hall is 135 feet tall. The venue has a capacity of 2,300 fully seated, and this is also used for graduation ceremonies from the University of Abertay Dundee, Angus College, and the University of Dundee. Children 3 years and above must hold a valid ticket to attend a performance. Once you enter the Caird Hall, photography and the recording of events are strictly forbidden.

2025 Update: Caird Hall was designed by town architect James Thomson, with assistance from Vernon Constable. The foundation stone was laid by King George V and Queen Mary in 1914.”

“Mains Castle is believed to have been built in 1562 by Sir David Graham, nephew of Cardinal Beaton, and features a series of buildings arranged around a central courtyard. Although several original western buildings have been lost, the castle's layout included living quarters for the family in the northern and eastern sections, while the southern quarters were reserved for servants. The castle is distinguished by its large, six-floor square tower house with dressed cornerstones, a hallmark of 16th-century architecture. Mains Castle also hosts live events and provides facilities for wedding ceremonies, making it a versatile venue for various occasions.”

BROUGHTY CASTLE MUSEUM REVIEWS

Fascinating history going back to the 1400's. On a rocky outcrop at the mouth of the Tay so was an important fortress in its day. Acquired by the War Office in 1855 who intended to use it as a defence against possible attack from the Russians. Due to the threat from possible French invasion it was re-fortified in 1860 and then further altered due to the German threat in later years. Now a museum with many interesting artefacts on display manned by friendly, helpful staff. Worth climbing the spiral staircase in the tower for the fantastic views across the Tay.

Broughty Castle is a historic castle on the banks of the River Tay in Broughty Ferry, Dundee, Scotland. Smashing place, steeped in history, with spectacular views up, down and across the River Tay.

Historic Scotland cum independently run museum attraction in/near Dundee. Great views and lots of information to read and see including a art gallery, artillery museum and geology exhibit. Free parking nearby, WCs on-site and a community run cafe opposite it are useful facilities.

CAIRD HALL REVIEWS

Went along to see my child's graduation ceremony. Lovely big hall equipped with a large stage with floor to ceiling led screens, modern comfortable seating, good sound system and relatively bottleneck free exits. Did heat up very, very quickly, but we survived. Great experience all round.

Roger Daltrey and his band sounded awesome, lots of space between seats and the bar was well run. Much better than Usher Hall in Edinburgh.

Been to a few events here now. Great venue, easy to get to, sounds is always good and the toilets are clean. They also have ramps at the main entrance for disability access.

Had an absolutely amazing day at my step daughters wedding. The meals were lovely with a great selection. The grounds are immaculate and perfect for photos.

I have worked for many years with Dean and his staff at Mains Castle and I cannot recommend them enough. Such a warm, generous and helpful team who will go out of their way every second to make your day so special. Thank you Dean and your family for all you've done!
