Ellenroad Engine House Steam Museum is the world’s largest working steam mill, which is managed and operated by The Ellenroad Trust Ltd. The mill has 99,756 mule spindles, drawing frames, and carding machines made by Platts of Oldham. The Whitelees Beam Engine continued operation until 1942, and the facility features five Lancashire boilers requiring a 220-foot chimney for proper draft. The Irene engine, a single-cylinder horizontal engine, weighs about 7 tonnes. Restoration work, which involved approximately 4,000 person-hours and numerous society volunteers, has preserved this historic site. Visitors can enjoy a picnic area with seating, light refreshments, and free admission. Ellenroad Engine House also offers free parking and chair lifts for added convenience. Free for adults accompanied by children under 16.

2025 Update: Rochdale Cenotaph is a First World War memorial on the Esplanade that is designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens. This is one of seven memorials in England based on his Cenotaph in London and one of his more ambitious designs. Rochdale Cenotaph also features a Stone of Remembrance and a recumbent soldier effigy. Rochdale Cenotaph is surrounded by beautifully maintained gardens perfect for contemplation. This ideal place also features various amenities, including wheelchair accessibility, car parking and more.
