“Segedunum Roman Fort & Museum preserves the remains of Segedunum, a Roman fort at the eastern end of Hadrian's Wall. Segedunum Roman Fort & Museum includes a 35-metre viewing tower and an interactive museum. The museum is built near the banks of the Tyne River, Segedunum formed the easternmost section of Hadrian's Wall and served as a garrison for nearly 300 years, from around 122 AD to 400 AD. The fort stood as a symbol of Roman rule and a defense against barbarian attacks. The wall was later extended further east around 127 AD. Segedunum Roman Fort & Museum showcases objects discovered during excavations, and the large observation tower offers panoramic views of the area.”
