Highly recommend this company. Stephen took a dark oak table and Welsh dresser and transformed them into a modern table and sideboard. He finished the table and sideboard top to a beautiful light oak patina, painted the rest grey and changed the handles and knobs, all to a very high standard. He's a lovely, friendly man and a perfectionist who goes the extra mile to please his customers. Nothing is too much trouble. His rates are very competitive too. Can't recommend him highly enough.

Excellent repair to my battered desk. The leather was scarred and careworn but came back almost like new as did a drawer which had suffered similarly. The workmanship was impressive and the items returned as promised within a very short time frame. Highly recommend Stephen and would definitely call upon him again.

We hired Stephen to restore our dining table and eight chairs. Before taking the job he inspected the furniture and told us it was a really good quality set and definitely worth restoring rather than buying a new one. He said the tabletop would be brought back to its original condition and that imperfections in the wood would be filled. This was also written in the quote and repeated in WhatsApp voice notes he sent us. Originally we were told the work would take around 2–3 weeks, but in reality it took about five weeks, so we were without our dining table for quite a long time. We were understanding as he had some unforeseen health issues. When the furniture was delivered it looked okay at first glance, but once we inspected it properly we noticed a number of issues including missed areas, uneven and chipped paintwork, brush hairs in the finish and problems with the tabletop including varnish dripping down the sides. The tabletop in particular was in a very poor state and had effectively been ruined. We took photos the same day and sent them to Stephen immediately. When delivering the furniture Stephen apologised for how the tabletop looked and even joked that it looked “rustic”. However, it would have been far better if he had told us while he was working on it that there were problems so we knew what to expect and the price could have reflected the fact that the tabletop had not been restored as promised. When the furniture was delivered I wanted to wait until my husband came home so we could both inspect it properly before paying the balance, as we had already paid a 50% deposit. Instead I felt pressured to pay there and then while I was alone in the house and didn’t feel comfortable challenging it in that moment. I also asked for a receipt which was never provided. Stephen said he would come back and fix the issues. At the time he was going through personal problems and we genuinely felt very sorry for him, so we tried to be as understanding and patient as possible and gave him several chances over the following months to return and put things right. Unfortunately those visits were either cancelled or never followed through, and the issues were never resolved. Since then the paint has chipped further and the finish now looks worse. This whole situation started in September and it is now March, and despite all that time there has still been no attempt to come back and fix the work. What has been particularly upsetting is that the story now seems to have changed, with claims that the furniture was in very poor condition to begin with. At the initial meeting both my husband and I were present and Stephen said the opposite, that it was a good quality set worth restoring and that the tabletop would be brought back to its original condition. At no point were we warned that expectations should be lowered. If we had been told that at the start we likely would have bought a new table and chairs instead rather than spending £580 on restoration. Because of how things have turned out we are now likely going to have to replace the set anyway, which means we are significantly out of pocket. I was very reluctant to leave this review as we genuinely felt sorry for Stephen because of the personal issues he was going through and did not want to affect someone’s business. However, after months of promises that the situation would be sorted out and nothing actually happening, it has become extremely frustrating and we feel we have been left with no choice. Everything I have said is supported by the written quote, WhatsApp messages and voice notes, as well as the photos taken on the day of delivery. We tried to be patient and reasonable throughout and gave multiple opportunities for things to be put right. We would still much prefer to reach a fair resolution if possible. - Kate Birch Reply
