“Holy Family Mossend is a renowned church in North Lanarkshire. The church, in the Diocese of Motherwell, was established to serve the community with religious services. The church celebrated its 150th Jubilee in 2018, reflecting its deep historical roots and its role in maintaining traditional worship practices for the local community. In 1881, to accommodate the rapidly growing population, the originally designated school building was extended to house 460 pupils. The growing community population also exceeded the capacity of Holy Family Mossend Church. In 1883, construction began on a new church building, designed by Messrs Pugin, due to inadequate space for church services. Construction of the new Holy Family Mossend church building was completed in 1884, and it was officially opened for local worship and Mass. In 1873, Chapelhall and Mossend became independent missions, with Father Milne remaining in charge until 1881.”
