“St Peter's Church is one of the most traditional churches in Sunderland. The oldest part is St Peter's, which was built in 674 AD. The church is constructed in a combination of Gothic Revival, English Gothic, and Anglo-Saxon architecture. The church is also said to be one of the three oldest parish churches of Monkwearmouth. St Peter's Church has a warm and welcoming ambience, attracting people from all over the community to attend prayers and masses. St. Peter's Church is a Grade I listed building which has served as a worship place for centuries now. The church also has an organ loft on the north side of the chancel. The stained glass windows at St Peter's Church were installed in 1969 and are among the most famous features of the building.”
