St Peter's Church is the oldest part is St Peter's, which was built in 674 AD. The church is constructed in a combination of Gothic Revival, English Gothic, and Anglo-Saxon architecture. The church is also said to be one of the three oldest parish churches of Monkwearmouth. St Peter's Church has a warm and welcoming ambience, attracting people from all over the community to attend prayers and masses. St Peter's Church is a Grade I listed building that has served as a worship place for centuries. The church also has an organ loft on the north side of the chancel. The stained glass windows at St Peter's Church were installed in 1969 and are among the most famous features of the building.

2025 Update: The Christians have gathered here for more than 1300 years. The church has won the Northern Design Award.

Sunderland Minster was built in 940 AD and was established to serve the parish community of Sunderland. The church is a Grade II listed building and has been a place of Christian worship for more than four centuries. Sunderland Minster welcomes everyone to enjoy a quiet moment and pray to achieve the faith and glory of God. The Minster caters to music and singing, storytelling, arts and crafts, prayer, and food. Visitors have found the church to be a spiritual and enlightening place where everyone can attend prayers, masses, and events. The building features some 16th-century stonework. Sunderland Minster has strong historical values, reflected in the construction and design of the exterior and interior of the church building.

2025 Update: The Sunday worship service is available with a sermon, hymns, and a robed choir, while a more informal service offers worship and prayer, Bible study in both English and Farsi, and craft activities. There is a quiet, said service of Holy Communion every Thursday at 12:15 pm (except during August).
