“Thornes Park is a large public park that offers 60 hectares of open space to explore and enjoy, including a 2-mile circular path that follows the park's boundary. Along with Clarence Park and Holmfield Park, it forms a large parkland southwest of the city. Thornes Park has a skate park for skateboarders, a miniature steam railway, an adventure playground and tennis courts. There are plenty of open green areas for you to bring your ball games, make a day of it, and bring a picnic. Thornes Park's Stork Lodge Cafe provides great refreshments when you need a well-deserved rest.

PUGNEYS COUNTRY PARK REVIEWS

This is a large man made lake on the outskirts of Wakefield with a coarse hard gravel foot path all around the periphery. Entry is free but onsite parking is paid. The gravel path is essentially level except for a short distance were wheel chair users may have some difficulty. Its great for walking, jogging and cycling away from traffic. The lake offers some water sports with gear that can be hired on site. A miniature working train is fun for the youger generation. An onsite restaurant provides hot, cold and alcoholic drinks as well as hot and cold foods. There is also a meeting room and toilets for all visitors. Parking is paid for via an online link available from the parking machines. There is plenty of grass verge for play and picnics all around the lake.

Beautiful place to walk with family and pets, they have little trains for you to ride. Toilets,Cafe, Shop. There were 2 ice cream vans. They have brick built purpose barbacues. Parking is not big enough on nice sunny days. On your walk round there are exercise frames of different kinds for you to use, cute little sculptures. There are picnic areas and children's play area. Lovely for a stroll.

Lovely clean, well maintained parkland around a large lake. Plenty of activities to keep the children entertained while walking round the lake. Nice cafe with snacks, cakes and lunch items. Toilets. Large car park but soon filled and was full by 11.30am in school holidays. Great day out, topped off by ice cream from the van in the car park (Roy's, lovely ice cream but £7.20 for 2x 99's!!).

ANGLERS COUNTRY PARK REVIEWS

What a magical place. Echoing other reviews it was brilliantly quiet, super dog & kid friendly and the playground is awesome. Bit out of the way but well worth the drive and can confirm car park was free (sept 9th). The Room on the Broom trail is a fab free resource, as is the cycling path, offshoot paths leading to surrounding areas and the bird watching den with panoramic views just wow. Word of caution though, the walk around the lake is deceptive - quite long especially for little ones on a hot day but we just about managed!

This is a fantastic place to go walking, the area is great with a 2 mile walk around the lake, also a cafe that is very reasonably priced, ,car park is a pay & Display, sometimes it isn't working so free parking on these days, great for the kids as the Room On The Broom Witch is an adventure trail with things to find on your way around, a must if you want to get the kids out for a good walk, 10/10 . Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Great place for a walk and people watch and watch the ducks and other birds. Nice quiet place and look out for the wood sculptures on your way round. And don’t forget to visit the cafe nice food and drinks and not to forget the ice cream. Great place for dogs as well. Large car park as well.

Great open space, walking with dog, kids or alone is lovely lots to see. Play park, skateboarders and scooterers zooming around, the secret and rose gardens are lovely. The aivery and birds with chicks are so cute (some humans..) Sadly the greenhouses are closed but walk round the side there's plants for sale (10-3pm) and some nicely made garden structures. Cash only cafe and a few different areas to park. Seasonal little train too, plus the athletics building so can be busy!

It's so beautiful when the flowers are in bloom. As someone with a slight fear of geese, I can say these are some of the friendliest I've met. There is lots of space for little ones to run and a huge playground. Playground: Lovely big playground newly refurbished with lots of choice for play.

Been coming here for years, the duck pond, the fields, the cafe, the bandstand, the bonfires and fireworks displays, the rose gardens and greenhouse, the tennis courts, the live music festivals, the sledging during winter,the kids playground (when I was a kid obviously) it really does have alot to offer.Unfortunately I didn't take many photos this visit.
