THE FALKIRK WHEEL REVIEWS
Stunning piece of engineering designed to raise and lower boats between (I hope I have this right) the Falkirk Canal and the Forth and Clyde canal. Getting to and walking all round the Wheel is free but you can pay to do a boat ride that takes you up and down in the wheel or you can just watch this happening. There's a large a friendly cafe there. Not very easy to access on public transport. I took a train from Edinburgh and cycled. I've included a video of the wheel in action.
I love the Falkirk wheel. Great area around the wheel. Plenty of grass to sit on. The car park is £3.5 for the whole day. You can book a boat tour, which I would recommend doing in advance. Wheelspin often transfers tour boats or other boats up and down. Plenty to do for children in the area as well: ice cream, food, wee padding boats for small children in shallow water. Some water to play in as well, walking on the water balls for children. Walks and cycling along the canal are just nearby.
Great experience. We booked in advance for a trip on the canal boats to the top of the wheel and back down. Very interesting and fun to ride around. You do need to pay for the car parking and if you book tickets in advance for the boat trip it is cheaper than paying on the day.
