“Pontypridd Museum was opened in 1986 in the former Tabernacle Welsh Baptist Chapel. The museum chronicles the area's transformation from a quiet village in the Valleys to a successful industrial city in the South Wales coalfield. Pontypridd Museum preserves objects, pictures, works of art, and documents that tell the story of the city and their people. Visitors can learn everything about the town with a collection of over 16,000 items. The museum’s displays are related to the boundaries of the Pontypridd Town Council ward. We had a lovely and interesting time at the Royal Mint. Our tour guide Katie was lovely and very friendly, sweet with our kids who of course had all the oddest questions. We struck our very own 50p piece which was very exciting, and had a good time exploring the museum at our own pace. Definitely book your tour in advance.

We made a very last minute online booking after racing to wales from Sussex. When we arrived they knew we’d booked online the staff were all helpful and friendly and the tour was very well put together with lots of interesting information from our super friendly guide Highly recommended doing this tour and paying to strike your own coin Amazing!

A really interesting place to visit. Excellent tour guide by carys. Lots of coins and medals to see. A gift shop and cafe, lovely outside space to sit out with plants potted around. Would recommend to go.

Booked the black gold tour a few days in advance, no queue whatsoever on entry and we were taken around by Tony who was an excellent guide, he got the children involved and catered to a guest who had some assistance needs. The exhibitions in the visitor centre were very informative and well put together, they didn't shy away from the struggles the communities have faced in the past but also celebrated their resilience. The cafe was a pleasant treat to finish off our visit with lots of homemade delights. Would definitely recommend visiting for adults and children alike. A real gem in South Wales!

Amazing morning with my partner at the experience. Great location with free parking by the entrance. Was greeted by a welcoming and warm lady behind the counter and given lots of information about the different exhibits and start time for our experience. We were meet by former miner Tony who was a friendly and fount of knowledge. Excellent experience, I loved the mix of technology and first person experience during the tour. An amazing cafe on site with lots of drinks options and home made goodies. Gift shop is small but has some lovely bits. A great insight into what life was like for miners. Thanks for the amazing morning/experience.

We had a great tour with Tony. He was very knowledgeable, informative and could answer any question that was thrown at him. There is also a cafe and a museum that are worth a visit too.

PONTYPRIDD MUSEUM REVIEWS

Love having this in my town. A particular favourite of my Son's. He loved his personal invite to see the model trains when he was younger. Lovely activities in the holidays for children. Free and educational. We love it! Friendly staff also. Great for the children to learn about the town they are from and surrounding areas.

Looks good from outside. Not yet had the pleasure of visiting inside. I hope to one day to see if they can teach me anything new about the Welsh heritage. Driven past many times but never seen anyone going in or coming out. The door has been open on the other hand. Parking is probably the major issue for this place.

Extremely detailed history displayed. I went deep back in history. Cleaned and the staff was polite. Nice tourist attraction.
