The pub is named after the remains of a Saxon king found in Priory Park, which it overlooks. Saxon King is also close to Southend’s seven miles of lovely beaches and the popular Adventure Island. Lovely pub on the estuary serving really tasty gastro pub food with all the classics on the menu. The fish n chips were perfectly good, fluffy crispy chips and a delicious succulent piece of cod. She had the burger and chips and said it was delicious.

Fantastic venue to enjoy evening cocktails. I enjoyed my fish and chips. Frankly, it was by far the best fish in batter I have had. Crisp and not soaked in oil. The skate could have less batter. Definitely recommend.

Lush Sunday dinner with a party of 8 of us in the patio area. Staff were very friendly and helpful! Amazing food. Starters was the chowder which for someone who’s never had it it was so good! I had the beef for main and couldn’t fault any of it.

Great food and good portion sizes. Nice atmosphere and well laid out seating in dining area. Great customer service by out wonderful waitress Millie, who was extremely helpful and efficient. Will definitely visit again

I came in for lunch today and was served by a lovely girl called Mollie. She was very friendly and helpful and made mine and my wife's dinning experience excellent. We look forward to having lunch their again soon. Thank you Mollie!

Absolutely lovely evening here with my husband. Enjoyed the best pie ever and will be coming back for that again.

First time for bottomless brunch at the Alex it was amazing!! We've been to the golden fleece in Chelmsford before which is the same company but this one was much better!! Our hostest was Sophie and she was very attentive, there wasn't a point where we had an empty glass before she was back asking what our next drink was. Food was delicious, very, very good selection of drinks for a bottomless brunch, very wide selection. Multicoloured lei's, funky sunglasses, gloves and promotional codes on the table for the whole party to enjoy. We will definitely be back. Thank you Sophie for making our first experience a good one.

Couch & the lady server (who I didn't get the name of) were absolutely brilliant - we came for brunch and they were super quick with all the drinks, the minute a drink was empty, they were taking order for another! Which is normally the case for brunch! Cam also did amazing getting all the food out together.

Came for a quick drink, first visit, located a short walk off the main street between the train station and the pier. Service was very friendly and helpful. Drinks were nice and reasonably priced. The venue itself is brilliant, great size, outside is large with covered seating and open seating as well. I can imagine it gets very busy in the evenings but we went just after opening time on a Tuesday so it was very quiet. Well worth a visit.
