“Insole Court has an impressive historic mansion, and its gardens have a fascinating history dating back 160 years. “This House is a Stage” is an exhibition that brings local history to life by dramatically portraying the rise and fall of the Insole family, who built and inhabited the mansion. The formerly derelict Stable Yard has been transformed into a vibrant hub, hosting community, corporate, and private functions, as well as serving freshly baked cakes, brunch, and lunch seven days a week. There is free access to Vaughan Avenue via pedestrian entrances. Visitors can also explore both the ground floor of the mansion and the ornamental gardens at no charge. Insole Court is a wonderful place to spend leisure time with your family.

CARDIFF CASTLE REVIEWS

This was a fun castle to explore. It's reasonably intact, although extensively altered throughout the years. I especially enjoyed walking the wall walk and climbing up into the Norman Keep and also climbing to the top of its gate. The mansion is also very nice. Please note: once you start the wall walk or the WW II bomb shelter tunnel walk, you have to complete it. It starts at one of the front corners and finishes at the back corner by the keep. Beautiful castle, very well presented with very pleasant friendly and knowledgeable staff. We thoroughly recommend the castle to anyone visiting Cardiff.

I had a great time exploring the castle and it was the highlight of my Cardiff trip! I definitely recommend taking the tour. The guide was really friendly and funny. He explained the history of the Castle as well as its former owners really well and included lots of funny facts at the side. Sadly, the castle grounds were also used for a festival which did destroy a little bit of the beautiful view inside of the castle walls. Overall though, I definitely recommend to explore this place.

The view was breathtaking. We spent a lot of time for walking around. Some places have steep steps so be cautious for elders or toddlers. There is also an area for children to play. My daughter had a joyful time in the playground and enjoyed Cardiff Castle very much.

Lovely small castle. Easy, free parking near castle. Free audio guide. Doesn't take too long, lots of steps going up to the rooms, so not really suited to people who struggle walking. Lovely cafe and gift shop toilets. There is a circular walk through woods, so take trainers, which can be a little muddy when wet. There is an entrance fee. Some parts are still being renovated. Would check website for prices and opening hours before visit if you want to go in castle.

This is a beautiful building with an interesting history. The views are also stunning. We did the audio tour with gives you a lot of information and guides you round the property. The friendly staff are also incredibly knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions. We visited the cafe for lunch. There was a good selection on offer and the food was delicious. The gift shop has a good selection of lovely local gifts for sale. Definitely worth a visit.

Stunning historical building, its like a fairy castle from a film. Wonderful features. Really interesting listening to the family that lived there many year's ago. Staff friendly very. Lovely cafe. Nice place for a walk too. Would definitely recommend a visit.

INSOLE COURT REVIEWS

We used the Drawing Room for a corporate afternoon event for the second year running: all attendees loved the venue - we were blessed with sunny weather and the opportunity to use the gardens for photos were an extra bonus! The staff on site were extremely helpful and on hand at all times. We had teas and coffees and cakes from on site which were delicious.

We had the most incredible wedding here! It exceeded my expectations. If you want a DIY wedding Insole Court is absolutely perfect. Very grateful to Heledd for helping us plan it all and the wonderful volunteers. Also wonderful food & drink in the coffee shop and a lovely place to walk the dog. Absolutely love visiting here!

We had our wedding day here and it was honestly the best day of my life. The staff handled everything with ease, were really helpful and the house and grounds are just incredible.
