“Roker Park is a suitable place for walking, especially in the spring or summer. The park is beautiful to visit at any time of the year. Roker Park features a children's railway, basketball courts, tennis courts, play areas, and a model boating lake. Roker Park has two play areas that will delight the kids. The park has lovely floral displays, water features to enjoy, and a fantastic display of lights during the winter. Roker Park hosts a variety of seasonal theatre productions and events. There is plenty of space to run around, kick a football, or play frisbee. The park also hosts events upon request.

2025 Update: Roker Park is roughly an upside-down, reversed 'L' shape. In the northern part of the park, there is the widest and fronts onto Roker beach through a ravine, which passes under a wooden footbridge.”

“Barnes Park is excellent for the whole family, with beautiful walks, bowling greens, play areas, tennis courts, and a café. They provide an entertainment-rich green space for people of all ages. The park allows children to enjoy various multi-purpose equipment every year. Barnes Park offers ample parking. A park catering to all ages and lots of small wild animals can be seen if you walk around, and there is also a pond with a few ducks. This park is also great for dog walking or letting your little ones ride around on their bikes. HERRINGTON COUNTRY PARK REVIEWS

Lovely area and walk. Plenty of wildlife and doggos to see and everyone on the walk that we passed were very friendly. It was easy enough to get there with plenty of parking - extra parking down the road from the main car park. There is a children’s park nearby the car park and toilets. Finished the walk with some ice cream and it was an all round nice place! Would return again to take my dog for a walk.

Large country park with great paths ideal for prams and wheelchairs etc. Large lake with smaller water like fishing lake and lily ponds. The park has a amphitheatre in the middle also cafe and toilets on site. Great sculptures are the park aswell as a miners memorial garden. A must visit while at penshaw monument.

Herrington Country Park is a great spot for outdoor activities, offering scenic walks, bike rides, and even a skateboard park. The park features the Penshaw Monument, serene water bodies, and the presence of swans, making it a lovely destination for a variety of recreational activities.

ROKER PARK REVIEWS

Really well organized Festival of Light. This was my first trip to Roker park and it looked like a lovely place to come back to. There were toilets, a lake, it's of grassy areas, miniature train, a couple of play areas and a bowling green. There are several entrances to the park. We used the one that takes you directly to the sea front which is then a short walk to pier view car park. We'll definitely be back for a visit and will be returning for the festival of lights.

Lot's of new lights this year and love the ticketed time slots, means the park isn't too busy. However the entrance could be better sign posted and clearer directions round the park would be good in future. Disabled and pet friendly!

Roker park just off the sea front at Roker a wonderful place for all of the family young and old today there was a model railway display and model boats on the lake plus a model train you could ride an enjoyable day for all of the family there is a play park for the little ones.

BARNES PARK REVIEWS

Been going here for years, great place to take the kids and one of the few parks where everyone seems to be polite and respectful of each other, two play areas for the kids, one for younger kids and one for the older ones, lovely cafe area too! There's a bowls green, tennis courts, fountains and sensory garden! Loads of wildlife from Squirrels to Herons and rabbits! Beautiful in the summer but also very colour in Autumn and even more picturesque in winter.

Nice place.Nice walk out and great for kids.also dog friendly, small cafe there and car park and sometimes ride round park and talk of fairies etc worth a visit.We love it. So many bits of the park you can visit just on their own. Young children's play area, sand pit, duck pond, big lawns of grass, fountains , streams, cafe, toilets, baby change, sensory garden, blackberry picking in the autumn. Such a wonderful place.

Really lovely park very clean and tidy rest rooms and small cafe great for a coffee park is dog friendly . Lots of wildlife squirrels ducks rabbits great to see park also has a bowling green play parks for different ages and a sensory garden really nice for walks round the lake and woodland.
