I should have done this way before now, to sing the praises of Nottingham Contemporary, now three years old. Its a fantastic example of the re-use of former central industrial sites, in this case situated in Nottingham's famous Lace Market area. Its an unusual square green building which at first site looks as if its constructed of green corrugated plastic, but do look closer, the texture of the surface looks like lace- brillant. It also has a tram stop, so access is easy.

I'll start off by admitting that I know little about art, but I do enjoy the whole gallery experience. I find it challenging, relaxing, mindful & it often gives me insight into things I wouldn't have otherwise even thought about. Our visit to the New Art Exchange was exactly like this with the added bonus of an excellent coffee and delicious slice of Blueberry sponge cake afterwards in their funky little cafe. Anyway, this is a small gallery of modern design.

They presents contemporary & original pieces of art exhibited within 10 gallery rooms - They present a variety of artwork and offer exhibition space for artists - Pete has often created paintings encouraging them to do the same

Mon - Sat 10:00 am - 5:30 pm Sun 11:00 am - 4:00 pm

Pete is a superb artist and genuine nice guy. He runs the studios and hosts for other artists. The range of work and passion for art and sculpture is evident before you even enter the premises as there is frequently easels outside in the alley tempting you to explore further. Each room is a different collection and Pete and several other artists can be seen working, but all the residents are friendly always have the time to chat. They make you feel a personal friend not just a customer.
