The Meadows consist mainly of open grassland crossed by tree-lined paths, a children's playground, a croquet club, tennis courts, and recreational sports pitches. The Meadows hosts shows, community events, concerts, and festivals. There are tennis courts east of the Meadows, and golf is played on a small putting course. The Meadows provides designated barbecue areas and outdoor gym equipment. The International Exhibition of Industry, Science and Art was held in the Meadows, giving the site worldwide recognition. The Meadows allows dogs, has wheelchair access and has a public restroom.

Leith Links Park was initially designed as a golf course. Leith Links is the site of the Siege in 1560. The park has a wide open space with tree-shaded streets and walkways that are well-used by people and kids in the children's play area. Leith Links Park is enjoyed by the entire community, and the park is a perfect spot for joggers, football, walkers, cricket, picnics and games. Leith Links is recognised as Edinburgh's premier place to play golf, a venue for Leith Festival, which is held here every year, with the Edinburgh Mela. 2025 Update: The park is divided by a road into two main areas, a western section and an eastern section, both being largely flat expanses of grass bordered by mature trees.
