In addition, the pub has a sheltered rustic garden with heaters. The Black Boy offers outdoor seating and bar games.

2025 Update: The pub has long been known as a quirky and interesting place, filled with old furniture, unique art, and fun decorations like taxidermy. Along with a cosy roaring fire in winter, the pub also has a garden with heaters and a peaceful, enclosed atmosphere.”

THE BISHOP ON THE BRIDGE REVIEWS

We thought with its prime location that it would be busy on a Thursday lunchtime. We were pleasantly surprised and found a table with ease. You order at the bar and just sit back in cider seat and watch the river and the world go by whilst you wait for your food. The staff were lovely and the food was well presented. After the hustle and bustle of the city centre this was a lovely quiet, peaceful change to enjoy a delicious lunch.

A nice place to stop off and have lunch and a beer. The service is excellent and the food was nicely presented and tasty. The local beer is nice and refreshing especially on a hot day. There is not much breeze so this outdoor area can get quite hot but so nice being beside the river. The WC's are upstairs and kept so clean and tidy. There is a WC downstairs for disabled access which was good to see. Really nice place to stop off and would go there again.

The Bishop on the Bridge is one of those pubs that’s a great visit all year round. In the summer they’ve got a gorgeous riverside terrace where you can soak up some sunshine. In the winter it’s cozy and welcoming, with those classic warming pub dishes. I recently stopped by for dinner on their terrace, and was very impressed with how good the food was. I had the chicken burger which was very flavoursome, and the chips were amazing. There’s a huge selection of drinks too, so you won’t struggle to find a tipple. Overall, it’s a great pub and I can certainly recommend a visit if you’re looking for somewhere nice for a drink and a bite to eat in Winchester.

Amazing place. Well worth a visit. Decent pint, friendly staff. One of them places where you can just point a camera in any direction and you’ll have an ace photo. Really interesting spot. Nice outdoor area. Hung out with friends and had beers for the afternoon.

Wow. What a pub. Lovely pizza oven outside, I had already eaten, so I just had some drinks. Pizzas were very popular, tho and looked amazing. Visited here after my work colleagues had recommended it and I now highly recomend it. We will be back. Beautiful, quirky pub. Felt really comfortable in there. Super friendly, attentive staff. This little gem is not to be missed. I will be returning.

Visited for a quiet sit down of real ale and cider. Great choice in an interesting and eclectic pub. Not so much gin choice as hoped for but made up with charm and a cosy room divided pub as if you were sitting in someone’s home. Be prepared for a range of taxidermy.

We were passing through and stopped for lunch here. Wasn't expecting such an amazing burger! It was very thick, juicy and full of flavour. The fries were nice and crunchy and well seasoned. Daughters sausages were delicious too. Cost around 30 quid to feed the both of us including a beer so not bad value for money. Staff were fantastic, very friendly.

Me and the wife have been scouring pubs in the area for years for a decent roast dinner. Some pubs come close but there's always something that let's them down, not this time. The staff are fantastic, the food was just as good. Honestly the best roast dinner I can recall having in any pub. Well done team, keep it up.

We went to the Golden Lion for an evening meal while on a short break to Winchester. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere was pleasant. The food was excellent and the service first class.
