RUSTIQUE REVIEWS
Decided to try booking a table last minute for a Thursday night, and managed to get squeezed in around 9pm. Seems like a really popular place, it was full. The service was good, friendly chatty waiters that let us get on with enjoying our meal. And the food itself was excellent. Wonderful starter of scallops with celeriac puree; the pork belly in a nice jus was some of the best I've tried. Hopefully it won't be long before I can come back.
Amazing French cuisine, delicious food and friendly staff. The set menu had a great variety of choices, you would definitely find something you want. All the dishes we had was so well cooked made me think I was in France. Would surely come back next time I am in York!

CHOPPING BLOCK AT WALMGATE ALE HOUSE REVIEWS
Great food, reasonably priced for the amazing quality, great atmosphere and great service. We got the Rosbif and the Sea Trout, both mains were superbly served. The crème brulée is also highly recommended. Definitely a highlight of our York weekend!
The tastiest gravy I've ever had! From the outside this place doesn't look much and, when you enter, the decor is a bit careworn. But, don't let any of that put you off because the food is simply delicious. They also have a fine range of real ales to choose from. PS dogs are allowed but, understandable, they're not allowed upstairs to the restaurant proper.
The food was absolutely amazing. Definitely recommend if you want to eat some decent French cuisine in a place with history. The building used to be a rope maker. Therefore they still have the hooks they used to spin the ropes attached to the ceiling…
