3 Best Steak Restaurants in York, UK

Our first visit to this hidden gem, just off the beaten track and tucked away near the riverside. It was recommended by some friends and had glowing reviews so we were really pleased with the food and the service. As it was a weeknight, it was quiet but this just meant we enjoyed a nice, peaceful atmosphere. The staff were friendly and looked after us. We'll be back again soon for the lunch menu offers. Great find.

Very mediocre experience at the Whippet Inn. Food was below par, expected big things, ordered the Ribeye med-rare. Came medium, rather tasteless, nice Maillard on the steak, but lacked flavour, no seasoning at all, no S&P on the table either. The tall manager was very attentive though, great service from him. Zero alcohol bottle of beer £6 was a bit mental pricing.

This place was a very pleasant surprise in York. We came for the meat, and stayed for the wine and gorgeous desert. Their wine selection is very good and we ended up drinking one of their recommendations which was a surprisingly smooth Colombinan “14 hands” red. We started with some pardon peppers and pigs’ cheek, followed with a ribeye and t-bone, with the meat cooked to perfection, and in between tried the Sicilian lemon and Aperol spritz sorbets (sweet and tasty). The final surprise was the Banoffee bread & butter pudding with ice cream, which was one of the best puddings I have ever tasted, with smild flavours of peanut, banana and raisins. Highly recommend.

First visit but won't be our last! Really needed a Sunday lunch but couldn't decide which meat to have so got a sharing board. We opted for roast beef, lamb and pork with crackling. It came with roast potatoes, roast parsnips, roasted carrots, stuffing, a large Yorkshire pudding each and oodles of gravy. Also came with sides of broccoli & peas, cabbage with bacon and cauliflower cheese. We were both really hungry when we got there and absolutely stuffed when we left. Every item was delicious but unfortunately I didn't manage to eat all mine. Hubby faired better! The staff were polite and the decor reasonable. I can hand on heart tell you it was the best Sunday Lunch I've ever had whilst eating out. I am a great home cook so often feel dissapointed with meals served at resteraunts. Not today. Well done Tomahawk steakhouse I give to 10 out of 10.

First time visit for York having previously been to the one in Newcastle, Absolutely love the place amazing food and service from the moment we stepped in, would get to a quarter of a drink left and asked if we wanted more immediately. Went for the mighty Tomahawk share platter was not disappointed wow just the finest steak ever and one to remember.

Great place to eat. We went as a group of 6 and everybody was very happy with the food, service and atmosphere. I usually avoid getting steak as most places ruin it but here they perfected it. The starters, deserts and mains were all very nice. Thank you.
